The term “period/ menstrual disorders” refers to the recurring phenomenon in which the period occurs on a date different than expected. The number of days by which the period can come either earlier or later, varies by woman and occasion.
What could be the cause of these disorders? Ιt is estimated that stress has a negative effect on the body and this can lead to period deregulation. In general, 1-2 episodes of menstrual irregularities over a period of one year are justified and do not necessarily require examination for women without risk factors and age less than 40-45 years.
Other possible causes are:
- Polycystic ovaries
- Endometriosis
- Uterine fibroids
- Hormonal contraception
- Hormonal imbalances as a result of dietary habits, medication, abnormal body weight
- Gynaecological malignancies
